Mexico

in a nutshell

Mexico is one of the richest countries when it comes to cultural heritage. It’s history is over 3000 years old. Maya and Aztek ruins, mariachi bands, tacos and latin-american dances make Mexico to a fascinating countries with happy and nice people. More than 80% of the Mexicans are Roman-catholics.

You don’t need any special vaccionations to travel Mexico. A vaccination against hepatits A is recommended. If you stay longer a vaccination against hepatitis B, rabies and typhus may be to consider. There is also the Zika-Virus and Dengue-fever, but there aren’t vaccinations against that. Malaria occurs in the southern parts of Mexico, so be sure to have medication against it. Yucatan and heights above 1.000m above sea level are malaria-free. Health care doesn’t meet western standards in the rural areas.

You don’t need a visum for Mexico if you’re stay is shorter than 180 days. That’s valid for the majority of the European countries, the US, Canada, Australia, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand and some southamerican countries. You often need an onward-ticket, which must be shown at your airline’s counter or during immigration.

Unfortunately it is one of the most dangerous countries in the world. The main reason is the international drug trafficking and the war inbetween the cartels and between the cartels and the police. The most dangerous cities in the world are in Mexico like Tijuana, Ciudad Juarez or Acapulco. Usually, tourists aren’t the target of the cartels, but they don’t care if tourists are in between randomly. BUT: we spent over six weeks in Mexico and didn’t have one single problem.

Behave reasonable, take an Uber at night, don’t drive by yourself at night, don’t do drugs and avoid the bad areas. Don’t wear expensive clothes or jewelry, don’t show your newest iPhone in public. Of course, it is still riskier than traveling to Iceland, but don’t be deterred by crime to travel to beautiful Mexico.

Mexico is one of the cheaper countries for travelling. You get a good value for your money. Hotels can be expensive as well, but also affordable, that’s your choice. Prices for busses and domestic flghts are fair, food is awesome and cheap at local restaurants. You wanna know what we spent in Mexicoclick here
