Sweden

in a nutshell

Sweden still has a monarchy, but it’s a parliamentary one. Sweden’s roots come from the Vikings. People in Sweden are mostly protestant-evangelic (55%) and Muslims (5%). Sweden has a history of neutrality for over 200 years. A highlight is the yearly „Midsommar“ in June. It’s also famous for „Fika“, a daily coffee break with sweets, at home or at work with your co-workers.

You don’t need any special vaccionations to travel to Sweden. A vaccination against tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) is recommended.

Sweden is spart of the EU and in the Schengen-zone, so most Europeans don’t need visa and can travel freely in the Schengen-zone. Non-EU-citizens of many countries as the US, UK, Canada, Japan, Australia, New Zealand don’t need a visa if their stay is shorter than 90 days. Other citizens have to apply for a visa at their embassy or consulate before their departure.

Sweden in general is a very safe country. There are some pickpockets in the bigger cities like Stockholm, Goteborg and Malmo, in partricular at crowded places, e.g. on subways, at train stations or airports. Also, there are some car-break-ins, so don’t leave any valuables inside the car, especially  don’t leave them visible in the car. Don’t sleep at the highway’s rest areas as there have been camper burglaries.

Sweden is a expensive country, especially alcohol, restaurants or fuel. But also in general, Sweden is on rank 15 of the most expensive countries in the whole world. You wanna know what we spent in Swedenclick here
