Portugal is a maritime nation. Portugal is famous for Fado (a lament), Fatima (tales tell that Virgin Maria appeared there) and football. Portuguese people are religious, between 85% and 95% of them belong to the Roman Catholicism. Their people are always nice and helpful.
You don’t need any special vaccionations to travel to Portugal. A vaccination against hepatitis A is recommended, for longer stays against hepatits B as well.
Portugal is part of the EU and in the Schengen-zone, so most Europeans don’t need visa and can travel freely in the Schengen-zone. Non-EU-citizens of many countries as the US, UK, Canada, Japan, Australia, New Zealand don’t need a visa if their stay is shorter than 90 days. Other citizens have to apply for a visa at their embassy or consulate before their departure.
Portugal in general is a very safe country. There are some pickpockets in the bigger cities like Lisbon or Porto, in partricular at crowded places, e.g. on subways, on the historical trams, at train stations or airports. Also, there are some car-break-ins near the beaches, so don’t leave any valuables inside the car, especially don’t leave them visible in the car.
Prices in Portugal are moderate. Portugal is the cheapest country in Western Europe, prices are about 17% cheaper than in Germany and 23% cheaper than in the US.
