North Macedonia

in a nutshell

Macedonians (64%), Albanians (25%), Turks (4%) and Roma (3%) are the biggest ethnical groups living in North Macedonia. The orthodox Christianity and the Islam shaped Macedonia in hundreds of years. It was strongly influenced by the Osmanian empire, the Balkan wars and Yugoslavia.

You don’t need any special vaccionations to travel to North Macedonia. If you stay longer a vaccination against hepatitis A & B, rabies and tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) may be to consider. Health care in Skopje is decent, but outside the capital the technical and hygenical standards are low.

North Macedonia is not part of the EU, citizens from Germany for example, can stay up to 90 days visa-free. We think that this regulation is also valid for other EU-states, but please check this before entering this country. We couldn’t find any information for citizens outside Europe.

North Macediona is a safe country, there is petty crime, especially in Skopje, but nothing you really have to worry about. Be careful with your credit cards.

Prices are very low. Costs for groceries, restaurants and fuel are cheap for a European country. Prices in general are (as statistics say) about half of the prices in Germany. You wanna know what we spent in North Macedoniaclick here.
