Basic Information

Cambodian culture is a rich and vibrant one, with a long and complex history. From the ancient Angkor civilization to the modern-day Khmer people, Cambodia has a unique blend of traditions, beliefs, and practices that have been passed down from generation to generation.

One of the most notable aspects of Cambodian culture is its deep Buddhist roots. Buddhism has played a significant role in shaping the country’s culture and values, with many ancient temples and ruins still standing as testaments to this influence. Monks are highly respected and revered in Cambodian society, and their teachings and practices continue to shape the beliefs and practices of the people.

Maybe you should think about Malaria prophylaxes.

Also you should check the „standard“ vaccinations like tetanus, polio, measles as well as hepatitis A+B, typhus, rabies, Japanese encephalitis and diphtheria. There is Dengue Fever and the Zika-Virus, too, but there are no vaccinations for these diseases.

You will need a visa to enter Cambodia. A visa on arrival is possible at the international airports in Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and Sihanoukville. It’s also possible when you cross land borders e.g. between Thailand and Cambodia. It costs 30$ and is valid for 30 days. You can also apply for an e-visa online which costs also 30$ and an additional processing fee of 6$.

Smaller crimes, especially in touristy areas and in nightlife districts, have increased in the past years. Corrupt police officers aren’t rare and work together with local criminals. But all in all, you don’t need to worry, just be reasonable and have a common sense.

In our opinion Cambodia is more expensive than other south-east-asian countries, probably because of the US-Dollar. Especially Siem Reap is more expensive as it’s the most touristic area of Cambodia. We think that, most of the time, the prices for accommodation, food or activities are fair. Sometimes you have to bargain to get an even better price.
