Basic Information about Bali Waterfalls

When you think of Bali, the first image that comes to mind might be its stunning beaches or endless green rice paddies, but the island is also home to some of the most breathtaking waterfalls in the world. Bali Waterfalls are like hidden treasures waiting to be discovered. Each one is unique, with its own charm and beauty that will leave you in awe. From the powerful cascades of Sekumpul to the peaceful oasis of Tibumana, there’s no shortage of amazing waterfalls in Bali and we are sure you will find your favorite somewhere in our guide.

Chasing Bali Waterfalls is a must-do activity. It is our favorite thing to do and we can promise you one thing: You can go to Bali five times and still find waterfalls you haven’t been to. We have listed 15 ones in this guide, so you won’t miss them and can plan your day ahead. As always, getting there early will get fewer people in your pictures and a more enjoyable experience. Having the waterfalls for yourself puts the cherry on top of the whole natural wonder.

We wrote down all admission fees in Indonesian Rupees. 15k are approximately 1$, 16k are 1€. For most of the waterfalls, you won’t need a guide so you can explore them on your own and just hop on a scooter. That’s why all distances are calculated by scooter.

1. Leke Leke

Discover the untouched beauty of Leke Leke Waterfall, a hidden gem tucked away in the heart of Bali’s countryside. This serene waterfall offers a tranquil retreat, surrounded by lush greenery and the soothing sounds of nature. It is located 1 hour north of Ubud.

As you make your way through the rustic trails, you’ll be rewarded with the sight of the cascading waters, creating a picturesque scene that feels like a secret paradise. The hike is around 20 minutes through the jungle but easy and doable for everyone.

Also, mainly because of Instagram, Leke Leke is getting increasingly popular among the Bali waterfalls. We were there early in the morning (8:30 am) and there were only 2 other people. More people arrived when we left around 10 am. Admission is 50k per person, making it one of the more expensive. But it’s totally worth it and it’s one of Kathi’s favorite among the Bali Waterfalls!

2. Banyumala Twin

Banyumala Twin Waterfall, situated in the highlands of Bali, waits to be explored. This hidden oasis is formed by two parallel waterfalls, creating a mesmerizing harmony of cascading water. The serene pool at the base invites you to take a dip amidst the tranquil surroundings. It will be very cold, but so refreshing! Immerse yourself in this stunning and remote Bali Waterfalls and let your worries melt away.

Admission is 20k and it’s just a few minutes from Munduk village. It is far enough from the main tourist destinations (over 2 hours from Ubud), so it’s less crowded! The hike is pretty easy, it’s only 20 minutes from the parking lot and down some stairs. If you are an advanced driver you can even drive further and only walk 5 minutes.

3. Tibumana

Find serenity amidst tropical splendor at Tibumana Waterfall, located in the lush jungles of Bangli. It is located about 40 minutes outside of Ubud. Be sure to stop on the road right before the parking lot. It’s a beautiful palm alley among rice paddies and a perfect place to take beautiful palm tree pictures. Also if you take our advice on going early, you can stop for a coffee at D’Carik Warung after the waterfall.

The access is easy as you only walk 10 minutes down some stairs and over a bamboo bridge. This enchanting waterfall is renowned for its crystal-clear waters, which gently cascade into a serene pool. Take a refreshing swim in the cool waters of this stunning Waterfall. Admission is 20k per person which is a fair price.

4. Gembleng

Gembleng is a real hidden gem among the Bali Waterfalls! It was only discovered in 2020. It’s about 1,5 hours‘ distance from Ubud, so not many tourists come to this beauty! It’s the perfect waterfall to visit if you stay in Sidemen. You only have to walk up around 60 stairs (5 min.), so it really is suitable for everyone.

The cool thing is that there are some natural pools where you can have a dip and enjoy the view! This one doesn’t even require an entry fee, but donations (15-20k per person) are expected. You can also walk a little bit more up after the pools and you will get a beautiful view over the lush green valley.

5. Sekumpul

Located in the northern region of Bali, this one tries to hide away from tourists. But Sekumpul is definitely not a secret anymore among the Bali Waterfalls. The left cascade is about 80 and the right one is about 100m high, which makes it the highest waterfall in Bali! It is a 2h drive from Ubud or 1h from Lovina. The admission is a bit expensive as you need a guide. We don’t really understand why because the 20-minute walk down is pretty easy and you will find steps and handrails, but it is mandatory. You have to pay 150k per person for the Sekumpul and the Hidden Waterfall.

Don’t forget to tell your guide, you want to see that one as well. In our opinion, you even pay 250k to also visit Fiji Waterfall. Around 15€ p.P. sounds much, but you can spend as long as you want down at the falls and we wouldn’t have missed one of them. They are all special and a must-see! If you want to know more about Sekumpul and how to avoid scams, be sure to get our new Best of Bali Guide!

6. Aling-Aling

This one is not like the others. You seek a little adrenaline rush? Aling-Aling Waterfall in North Bali is the place to be. Surrounded by lush tropical rainforest, this waterfall boasts a unique feature: a natural slide and cliff jumping spots. You can jump from 5, 10, and 15 meters. Take a plunge into the pools or slide down the slippery rocks for an exhilarating experience. Don’t forget to channel your inner daredevil and make a splash!

You will need a guide for this experience. The short trek will cost 125k per person for the entrance fee and the guide. You can officially stay 1 1/2 hours, but we stayed around 2h, and jump as often you like. For us, the 20 min. walk through ricefields and jungle with some stairs was just perfect. There’s a longer trek which is more expensive but we don’t think that’s a must-do.

If you only want to visit Aling-Aling waterfall without sliding and jumping, the admission is 20k. For Kevin, Aling-Aling is a must-visit destination when it comes to Bali Waterfalls and when staying in the Northern parts (Lovina, Munduk) of Bali. From Lovina you will drive 25 min. by scooter.

7. Kanto Lampo

Kanto Lampo is one of the most „instagramable“ waterfalls in Bali. Here you will find all the nice Bali guides and local photographers that will take your pictures for you and help you across the slippery waterfall. They even tell you how to strike a pose.

It can get very crowded, because it is only 25 min. away from Ubud and a short and easy walk (15 min.). Admission is 20k per person. Better come early to avoid the crowds! Although it was pretty crowded when we visited in the afternoon, we still enjoyed Kanto Lampo. It’s not a secret place and don’t expect one of the highest Bali Waterfalls. This one is more wide and the scenery with the black stones makes it worth visiting.

8. Banyu Wana Amertha

Banyu Wana Amertha is a hidden gem when it comes to beautiful Bali Waterfalls. Like many others it is located in the Munduk area. On the left picture you can see the main Banyu Wana Amertha. It is not as high as Sekumpul or Gitgit but consists of thousands of small ones. You will reach it after a short walk of 10-15 minutes down a small path and also some stairs. There’s one crossing where you can choose to walk straight or left. This one is left.

The best part: For only 40k you can see three other waterfalls on one track. That’s how they advertise it at the entrance. To be honest we only found two others. Maybe the fourth one was just too small. If you go there and find it, please tell us!

But be sure to take the detour and also walk the way that’s leading straight. Then you will find the one on the right picture. For us it was a lucky find as well! We had it all to ourselves as it’s not so famous and maybe people don’t bother going there. We don’t know the real name of it. If you think the way is too exhausting for you, there’s also the possibility that some locals drive you down and up by their scooters for 50k per person.

9. Tukad Cepung

Prepare to be amazed by the beauty of Tukad Cepung Waterfall, nestled within a stunning cave in the Bangli regency. It’s around 1h away from Ubud. You just need to walk down around 15 minutes over some stairs and find your way into the gorge.

Between 11 and 12 the sunlight peeks perfectly through the cracks, illuminating the waterfall in a mesmerizing display. Witnessing the sunlight streaming down onto the cascading waters creates a magical ambiance that will leave you in awe. We came there in the afternoon (3pm) and it was already a little too late. Admission is only 15k.

10. Gitgit

Gitgit waterfall was the first waterfall we visited in Bali back in 2014. Hidden amidst the lush rainforests of North Bali, Gitgit Waterfall is a mesmerizing sight to behold. Upon arrival, a 40-meter curtain of water plunges into a tranquil pool, creating a postcard-perfect scene.

The hike is easy, it’s only down some stairs. Admission is 20k IDR per person. Recently, there are also many Reels on Instagram which showcase the entrance gate with the waterfall in the background.

11. Nungnung

Tucked away in the serene jungles of central Bali, Nungnung Waterfall is a hidden gem awaiting discovery. It’s about 1-1,5 hours away from Ubud or Canggu, so it’s perfect for a half-day trip! We started our trip at 7 am and arrived at Nungnung at 8.20 am.

This impressive 50-meter cascade offers a peaceful retreat from the crowds, allowing you to immerse yourself in nature’s embrace. While the descent can be challenging (around 500 steps), the reward of witnessing the waterfall’s sheer power and untouched beauty is well worth the effort. But the way up is even more exhausting as the stairs are pretty steep. The entrance fee is 20k IDR per person.

12. Tegenungan

Nestled close to Ubud, Tegenungan Waterfall is a popular escape from the heat and humidity. As you approach the falls, you’ll hear the sound of water echoing through the jungle. A short trek down a few steps reveals a big curtain of water that plunges into a pool. Take a dip in the refreshing waters to cool down. You will need to pay entrance of both sides of the river.

We’ve been there in 2016 but now there is a day club next to the waterfall. We don’t know how that affects your experience but it already wasn’t our favorite one back then.

13. Munduk / Red Coral

Great news for you: you can visit Munduk or also known as Red Coral Waterfall and numbers 14 and 15 on one single trail! All three waterfalls will take around 2-3 hours, depending on how fast you walk and how long you stay at each of these stunning Bali Waterfalls. We spent 4 hours there in total, but including lunch at „The Melanting“.

The way to Munduk (or Red Coral Waterfall) is only 5 minutes from where you park your scooter for 3k and the trail is very easy. We think it looks a bit like Leke Leke. Admission for only this one is 20k and as its name implies it’s close to the Munduk village.

14. Melanting

Melanting waterfall was really impressive for us as it was so surprising. We haven’t heard about it before we visited this awesome waterfall and we don’t know why. It’s stunning and is really a hidden gem among Bali Waterfalls!

The way down (or more the way back up) can be challenging as it will take you 500 stairs (or 1.000 in total) to go there. So bring enough water and take some breaks. Admission is only 10k. Can you spot us on the left picture?

15. Labuhan Kebo

Labuan Kebo Waterfall is also on the Munduk trail. When you walk down, it’s the second one but we recommend doing the Melanting first as it’s more exhausting. For Labuhan Kebo, you have to walk around 5-10 minutes off the main path but it’s pretty easy, though you have to walk some stairs.

There’s a bridge, where you can take nice pictures. Also, you can take a dip into the refreshing pools. Admission is only 10k. The whole trail is really worth a half day trip and with us there were not more then 20 people around.
