Welcome to Jaipur, a city of colors, culture, and history! Located in the state of Rajasthan in northern India, Jaipur is a must-visit destination for travelers seeking a unique and exciting adventure. Known as the „Pink City“ for its rose-colored architecture, Jaipur is a place where the past meets the present in a vibrant and colorful way. 1. How to get to Jaipur
Jaipur is well-connected to the rest of India by air, rail, and road. The city has its own international airport, which serves flights to and from major cities in India as well as several international destinations. If you’re traveling by train, Jaipur Junction is a major railway station that connects the city to several other major cities in India. There are also several bus services that connect Jaipur to nearby cities and towns.
By car, it’s a 4-hour ride to Agra, a 5-hour drive to Delhi, a 6-hour drive to Jodhpur, or a 7-hour ride to Udaipur.
2. Where to Stay and Eat in Jaipur
Jaipur has a wide range of accommodation options to suit all budgets and preferences. From luxurious five-star hotels to budget-friendly guesthouses, there’s something for everyone. For those on a tighter budget, there are several guesthouses and budget hotels in the city center. We stayed at The Gulmohar Mansion and can totally recommend it. We paid 16€ per person and night and we loved the rooftop pool. Other good options are the Doongri House, The Hosteller Jaipur, All Seasons Homestay, or Baari the House of Fusion.
Jaipur is a food lover’s paradise, with a wide range of delicious and authentic Rajasthani cuisine on offer. Some popular local dishes include dal-bati-churma, gatte ki sabzi, laal maas, and kachori. There are several great restaurants and street food stalls in Jaipur where you can try these and other local specialties.
Nevertheless, if you want to have some Western food, there are 2 amazing cafes/restaurants right next to the Gulmohar Mansion. One is Nibs Cafe the other one is Town Coffee 2.0.
3. Our Favorite Sights
If you’re a history buff, Jaipur is the perfect destination for you. Jaipur is the capital of Rajasthan with over 3 million inhabitants. From forts and palaces to temples and museums, the city is home to a wealth of iconic sights that offer a glimpse into India’s rich past. Here are some must-visit sights in Jaipur.
3.1 Amber Fort - A Majestic Wonder
Located just outside the city, Amber Fort is a stunning fortress that was once the residence of Rajput Maharajas. Built in the 16th century, this grand structure boasts intricate carvings, stunning mirror work, and a maze of courtyards and gardens. Don’t miss the chance to take an elephant ride up to the fort and witness the breathtaking views of the city below. Admission is 500 Rupees (5,60€/6,50$) for foreigners.
3.2 Hawa Mahal - The Palace of the Winds
One of Jaipur’s most iconic landmarks, Hawa Mahal is a palace of winds that was built in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh. Its pink façade features 953 small windows that were designed to allow the royal ladies to observe the bustling street life below without being seen. A visit to Hawa Mahal is a must to truly appreciate the architectural beauty of Jaipur.

3.3 City Palace - A Grandeur Marvel
Located in the heart of Jaipur, City Palace is a grand complex that blends Mughal and Rajasthani architecture. Built in the 18th century, this palace is home to a museum that showcases the city’s rich history, including its royal heritage, art, and culture. Don’t miss the chance to witness the breathtaking view of Jaipur from the palace’s terrace. The admission fee is 700 Rupees for foreigners (7,80€/9$).
3.4 Patrika Gate
The Patrika Gate is a stunningly beautiful archway that is located in the Jawahar Circle area of Jaipur. It was built in 2016 as a tribute to the vibrant and colorful culture of Rajasthan and has quickly become one of the most popular tourist attractions in the city. Admission is free.
The gate is made entirely of pink sandstone, which is a signature feature of Jaipur’s architecture. It stands at a height of 50 feet and is adorned with intricate carvings and designs that depict various aspects of Rajasthan’s rich culture, including folk dances, music, and festivals.
3.5 Gaitor Ki Chhatriyan
Gaitor Ki Chhatriyan is a collection of cenotaphs, or empty tombs, that were built to honor the memory of the Maharajas of Jaipur. The cenotaphs are located in the royal cemetery, or Gaitor, which is situated on the outskirts of Jaipur near the famous Amber Fort. The earliest cenotaph dates back to the 18th century and the most recent was built in the early 20th century. The cenotaphs are made from white marble and are adorned with delicate jali screens, which filter the light and create a beautiful effect inside the cenotaphs
Gaitor Ki Chhatriyan is located in a peaceful and secluded part of Jaipur and is a great place to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. Visitors can explore the various cenotaphs and take in the beauty of the intricate carvings and stunning architecture. It’s also a great spot for photography, as the white marble and intricate design make for some truly stunning shots. The admission fee is only 50 Rupees (0,60€).
4. What we missed but you shouldn't
Located just outside the city, Panna Meena Ka Kund is a hidden gem that dates back to the 16th century. This ancient stepwell is a marvel of engineering and design, with a series of symmetrical steps that lead down to a pool of water. Don’t miss the chance to explore this hidden gem and marvel at its intricate architecture.
Perched on a hill overlooking the city, Nahargarh Fort is a stunning architectural masterpiece that offers breathtaking views of Jaipur’s landscape. Built in the 18th century, this fort was originally built as a retreat for the royals. Don’t miss the chance to witness the stunning sunset over the city from the fort’s terrace.
Nestled amidst the Aravalli Hills, Galtaji Temple is a spiritual haven that is dedicated to Lord Hanuman. This temple is known for its natural spring, which flows into a series of pools that are believed to have healing properties. Don’t miss the chance to take a dip in the holy water and experience the spiritual energy of the temple.
